Create class types
A class type holds the name, description and defaults of a kind of class, in each of your languages. Create one before you put that class on the schedule.
What a class type is
A class type is the template for a kind of class, such as Vinyasa or Mat pilates. It holds what members read (the name and description) and the defaults that fill in every time you add that class to the schedule. You need at least one class type before you can create a class.
Class types are included on every plan, Free too. Only the owner and admins can create, edit or archive them, including their default Who can book. Front desk and teachers do not see the Class types page.
Create a class type
- Open Class types (in Settings, under What you sell; on a phone, Settings is under More).
- Select New class type.
- Fill in Name and Description. There is one field per language your studio uses.
- If you like, add a Link for more information and its Link text. Members see the link on the class details only when Show to members is on (it starts off).
- Choose the Colour on the admin calendar, so staff can tell classes apart at a glance.
- Set the defaults: Usual teacher, Usual length in minutes, Usual number of spots and Who can book.
- Select Save.
Note: If a text is missing in one of your languages, the list shows how many translations are missing. Members who read that language see the text in your studio’s main language until you fill it in.
How the defaults work
When you add a class of this type, the teacher, length, spots and booking rule come from the class type. You can still change any of them on a single class or a series, except that only the owner and admins can change Who can book. A new class added by front desk always uses the class type’s default. Changing a class type later does not rewrite classes already on the schedule, except the teacher when you choose so (below).
Change the usual teacher
When you change the Usual teacher and upcoming classes of this type have someone else, saving asks Also change the teacher of upcoming classes of this type?, with how many classes:
- Only new classes (the default): classes already on the schedule keep their teacher. The new teacher only fills in classes you add from now on.
- Also the upcoming classes: every class of this type still to come, in series and one-off, moves to the new teacher for good. This is not a substitution, so no Substitute label shows.
With the second choice:
- Past, started and cancelled classes, and every booking, stay as they are.
- A class that already has a substitute keeps that substitute, and the new teacher becomes its usual teacher. If the substitute is the new teacher, the substitution simply ends.
- If the new teacher has a private session at the time of a class, that class keeps its teacher, and the dialog says how many.
- E-mail the people booked is ticked when someone is booked; booked members then get the Class changed e-mail. Untick it to tell nobody.
- Teachers who show their classes in Google Calendar see the change there too.
Archive a class type
Open the class type and choose Archive. It leaves the list of class types, so it is no longer offered for new classes. Classes already on the schedule stay as they are.
